*Adrian Staehli Half course (spring term). Th., 3–5.* Statues in marble and bronze count among the most prominent objects of art to have survived from Greek and Roman antiquity. Since the first discoveries of ancient sculpture in the Renaissance, they not only influenced contemporary art enormously, but they also shaped our understanding of Classical (mainly Greek) art. This course explores the development of different sculptural styles, examines the display of statues and how they addressed their beholders, and introduces basic concepts of analyzing and interpreting ancient sculpture.
